The Tall Ships Are Coming to Detroit!
Sail Detroit 2025 will be a family-friendly festival open to all ages, showcasing the majesty of Tall Ships and celebrating the vibrant maritime history of Detroit from August 7–10.
With private and public tours of these majestic vessels and multiple vantage points to view the ships, the festival promises to be a highlight for locals and visitors alike.

Sail Detroit will occur at the Port Authority headquarters located between Hart Plaza and the Renaissance Center.

Sail Detroit 2001
This won’t be the first time the Tall Ships have dotted the Detroit skyline. In 2001, nearly 20 vessels from various countries tied up in Detroit for Sail Detroit from July 18–22. The event was part of “The Tall Ships Challenge, 2001 Great Lakes” tour, and brought more than a million visitors to the event, which was held a week before Detroit’s tricentennial. The incredible turnout was a signature moment for Detroit and its residents, and a lifelong memory for all who visited.

Join us on August 8, 9, or 10 for an unforgettable maritime adventure! Ticket holders will enjoy exclusive access to board historic Tall Ships, meet the crews, and take in stunning views of the river while learning about the rich sailing history of the Great Lakes.

Set sail aboard the Alliance, a 105-foot, three-masted schooner. This 1.5-hour cruise offers a rare opportunity to experience the beauty of Tall Ship sailing on the Detroit River, surrounded by the vibrant skyline and historic waterfront of downtown Detroit.
The Alliance features comfortable seating, modern restrooms, and a knowledgeable crew eager to share insights into traditional sailing and the ship’s history. This experience is perfect for families, couples, groups, and solo adventurers of all ages.
Boarding begins 15 minutes prior to departure at the Detroit Wayne County Port Authority. Tickets are limited and advance purchase is strongly recommended.
